Good Evening Centre Secretary

Please would you ask your members to help in the creation of an on-line resource for caravanners?

About eighteen months ago, a letter was published in the Camping and Caravanning Club Magazine from a young caravanner who cut short a holiday because they only knew how to barbeque sausages. They asked if there was a website to help.  Well, now there is, but there is a wealth of knowledge and experience within the Club that we should harness to help and encourage the younger generation to get the best out of our hobby.

Mealsinfields.co.uk has been in development since that letter was published.  I personally collected one hundred recipes, either from my own experience, or from family and close friends.  These are now the heart of the site.  To create a really useful resource, we need everyone to submit a favourite recipe that they use in the caravan, or on the BBQ.  We are especially looking for desserts, micro waved food, steamed and slow cooker meals.

We also want to provide a library of hints and tips to make life easy – such as the use of steamers on gas at rallies, cooking pizza without an oven, using a whole gamut of devices that are currently on the market.

To complete the resource we want to create a directory of places to stay, places to shop and places to dine, but we know that the recommendation of centre members will be invaluable in helping us to create this feature.  We want to be able to include places to suit all tastes and all pockets, but overall to promote healthy eating and the support of local economies.  Places to shop might include regular farmer’s markets, specialist shops, family run butchers and bakers – anywhere where members have found a business that the visit every time a rally is booked in the area.

We hope your members will visit the site, enjoy what they find and become members of our on-line supportive community.  There is no membership fee, no login, no password, no limit on printing from the site and most importantly no charges for viewing the information we have collected.  Would you consider a link from your centre website to www.mealsinfields.co.uk ?
